Höstrusk is my second collection of embroidery design. As the name suggests (if you understand Swedish) this collection is inspired by the dark and stormy weather of late fall.
As this year has made us spend more time at home, and the darkness of winter is making the walls come closer as the storm is raging outside, we need to make home fit our entire lives. We can’t wait for the life after the pandemic but must make this strange everyday life work for us now.
That’s at least the thought that inspired me in the making of this collection. I was drawn to contrast and color, with bold and unique designs. As always, all the pieces in the collection are handmade by me in my small home studio in Turku. As with the Vårvind collection from earlier this year, I have once again felt inspired to use mostly recycled materials. This time around however I took it even farther and of the entire collection, it’s only the tea towels and the rug that are made from newly produces fabric. The rest of the pieces, like the lamp shades, the framed artwork, the fabric baskets and whatever else you can find, are solely made from recycled materials. I’ve been browsing flea markets all year and used whatever materials I could find, a way of working that really pushes creativity and above all makes the work fun.
I hope you enjoy this collection of handmade embroidery art and textile design and urge you to act quickly if a piece catches your eye since they’re all unique and won’t come again. You can find the pieces left in store under the tab Höstrusk FW2020 in my webshop.
